Operation Smile's World Journey of Smiles:
25 Countries to Celebrate 25 Years
In November 2007, around the world, on the same day, at the same local time, Operation Smile conducted 40 missions in 25 countries, treating almost 5,000 children with facial deformities.
Sponsored by Benj Gershman of Look At Life, Liz Brown traveled to Managua, Nicaragua to document their local medical mission, which proved to be a life changing experience. She traveled back to Nicaragua in January 2008 to follow up with a child she began photographing closely in November. To view some of the images from Liz's trip to Nicaragua please visit the next page, Nicaragua.
Sending Liz to Nicaragua was a group effort. A fundraiser exhibition of her work was held on October 2, 2007 at Studio7 to raise money for this initial trip. Thank you to all who suppored this event, and to our very generous sponsors, B2Pro and Digital Plus. Photos from the Studio7 fund raising event can be viewed here.
On February 28, 2008, Look At Life hosted a photography exhibit, The World Journey of Smiles Photography Exhibition, at Splashlight Studios in New York City. Work from 27 photographers who documented this medical milestone was on display, showing the unity of passion and purpose that embodies Operation Smile. Thank you to Yun Cee Ng for photographing the event for us. Portraits taken of the party guests can be viewed on my Splashlight page.
